Gianni Morandi is an Italian pop singer, actor and entertainer who started his career in 1962, placing high at or winning a number of Italian popular song festivals. Over a five decade period he has released over a dozen studio albums and live albums.
He was selected to represent his home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1970 in Amsterdam with the song "Occhi di ragazza", which finished in joint 8th place with 5 points alongside the entries from Belgium and Monaco.
Over the next three decades he made multiple appearances in the Festival di Sanremo, winning the 1987 final with Umberto Tozzi and Enrico Ruggeri, both of whom would also represent the country on the Contest stage. He also acted as the presenter of the 2011 competition and again the following year.
