Marco Lobregat
From his stint as a Coca-Cola model in the 90’s, Marco Lobregat has gone on to be “The World’s Hottest Mushroom Farmer”. The Buzzfeed accolade stems from how he was the co-founder of Ministry of Mushrooms, which went from a mushroom farm to an advocacy that supports farmers, promotes local produce, and fights against breast cancer through the Mushrooms Go Pink campaign. Additionally, they produced Summer Peace Festival 2013 to raise the spirits of violence-ridden Metro Manilla, with experiential activities like tree planting. Although the farm closed in 2013, Marco’s advocacy was not over. In 2014, he joined marketing-communications company GeiserMaclang as Senior Marketing and Communications Strategist, educating farmers about high-yield crops amongst other roles. Marco Lobregat, a son of a political scion from Mindanao, became a media personality abroad doing reports from countries like Brazil, Switzerland and Japan.
During the start of the coronavirus pandemic last year, Marco and his other co-workers were immediately sent home to their respective countries.
Upon his arrival in the Philippines, Marco, initially stayed in Batangas, but eventually found his way to Zamboanga—the province where he was born and raised. The story of Marco is story of a lot of our OFWs.
