Melton Mustafa received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Florida A&#;M University where he served as Section leader of the saxophone section and head of the Dance Routine committee for the Legendary Marching “”. While at FAMU, Mustafa performed with the FAMU “Strikers” at the Apollo theatre and traveled the world with the Marching “”. After undergraduate school, Mustafa received a Master’s Degree in Education from Florida International University and where he is currently working on his Doctoral Degree in Leadership.     Melton Mustafa-Trumpet player extraordinaire, arranger/composer, producer, and has performed with some of the top names in JAZZ including the Count Basie Orchestra, Duke Ellington Orchestra, Woody Herman Orchestra, Bobby Watson, Jaco Pastorius, George Cables, John Hicks, Charlie Mingus Dynasty, and Gunter Shuller, among many others. Mustafa has played in many of the international Jazz Festival which include the Playboy Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Ravina Jazz Festival, SS Norway Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Lugano Jazz Festival (Italy), Pori Jazz Festival, Charlie Mingus Epitaph Orchestra in Russia and many others.

    Melton has recorded and toured with the Count Basie Orchestra, Bobby Watson, Jaco Pastorius, Charles Mingus Epitaph Big band among many others. Mustafa has released three CD's entitled MELTON MUSTAFA ORCHESTRA "Boiling Point", MELTON MUSTAFA ORCHESTRA "St. Louis Blues," and Mustafa’s Jazz Quartet’s new CD is entitled (The Softer Side, scenes from Miami vol.1)

    The Melton Mustafa Orchestra is a powerhouse orchestra in the Basie tradition, rooted in swing and blues, though also featuring bebop, modal and Afro-Cuban flavors. The Melton Mustafa Quartet and sometimes quintet, focuses mostly on original compositions and incorporates many jazz styles ranging from blues to free-jazz.
