1.- "En cuanto a la doctrina de la represión, es seguro que la concebí yo independientemente; no sé de ninguna influencia que me haya aproximado a ella, y durante mucho tiempo tuve a esta idea por original, hasta que Otto Rank nos exhibió aquel pasaje de El mundo como voluntad y representación, de Schopenhauer, donde el filósofo se esfuerza por explicar la locura. Lo que ahí se dice acerca de la renuencia a aceptar un fragmento penoso de la realidad coincide acabadamente con el contenido de mi concepto de represión, tanto, que otra vez puedo dar gracias a mi falta de erudición libresca, que me posibilitó hacer un descubrimiento. Schopenhauer takes Newton's idea that light is made up of seven inherently coloured rays and spends eighty pages sh*tting on it, and on him. In his view, colours don't exist in the external world, but are entirely produced in the eye as a way to interpret that which really does exist; extremely subtle mixtures of light and darkness. Unlike most other theories of physics, he avoids the use of calculations or arithmetic (thank God), believing these get in the way of real understanding.
